All the stars came out at night. One star was late. It hurried across the sky. "I am sorry," it said to the moon. "That is all right," said the moon. "I am late for the children," said the star. "They are waiting." "Go and see," said the moon. The star went to the window. The children were already asleep. The star felt sad. It sat in the window and thought. Then it saw a small boy open his eyes. He looked up and smiled. "You came," he said. "I am late," said the star. "You are just in time," said the boy, and went back to sleep. The star stayed in the window all night.
